My 2 friendly debates with OWS demonstrators

My 2 friendly debates at OWS:

Oct 18 –Lunchtime at OWS – I heard one OWS guy praising BO stating that he was a great president and was greatly improving the US. With police in area I felt safe and compelled to respond and to best of my recollection here is what happened (I am ‘WS’ for Wall Street).

WS: Obama is a Marxist and is destroying the economy.

Then another OWS guy sitting down with a cage over himself from head to waist replied. He will be referred to as CM for caged man.

CM: We need Marxism here sir.

WS: Tell me – where in world history did socialism or Marxism lead to a successful economy?

CM: Stalin and Mao did not implement Marxism correctly. We can do a much better job here.

WS: Only capitalism produced long lasting jobs. The government does not.

CM: Go down in the trenched sir and talk to the many here who are doing a great job running (OWS).

WS: Private sector jobs last because there is a demand for the jobs. They become self sustaining and create ancillary jobs. Most government jobs are lost once funding runs out.

** nobody had any comeback to this. There were approx 10 people listening, few videoing and taping the debate. That was fun. I could not stay longer. I concluded …

WS: Thanks all – nice debate, got to get back to work.

Nov 3 — Had 2nd amicable conversation there. I pick my spots carefully. Few police by me and a peaceful looking guy my age holding a sign advocating taxing wall street more. After cordial intros we reached common ground about unfair tax code breaks — that most of these add little or nothing to the economy. I then proposed the solution – Fair Tax, stressing 3 main points — elimination of these tax breaks and guarantees that Fair Tax remains progressive, and revenue neutral. i gave more details about progressive requirement. He listened intently, spoke little. I gave him site of my good friend Doug Hartlove (heads NJ FairTax.Org) – and encouraged him to research about FT. Hopefully he will and share with his colleagues. I did recall 1 sign few weeks ago asking for elimination if the income tax.

I allow Ted Hruzd, my friend to blog at will here. He has many posts here. I have known Ted since we were both students at NYU. Ted also works for an Investment Bank as a VP in Equity Global Markets. ------------------------- I was very very Socialist leaning as a 22 year old. I then strongly believed in Gov role in helping the poor. However, as a USDA Child Nutrition Programs, I personally accounted for millions of fraud, abuse, and waste of tax payer money. I came to believe that the poor would be best served with less Gov programs and more with direct aid via tax system. Then after 5 years I became a free market capitalist, was a venture capitalist in 2007 and helped start 2 high tech companies. I dedicate this site to champion free market capitalism as the best road to Prosperity. Please join in. If you disagree, fine, but please post with dignity and class and be civil. Argue with facts always.
